550 Joint Personnel Conduct Gerebek Lumpur in Pluit Reservoir

Pluit Reservoir is the main reservoir for a number of streams and rivers, especially Ciliwung Lama

550 joint personnel of North Jakarta administration, Indonesian Navy's Military Police Center (Puspomal), Indonesian Navy's Naval Main Base (Lantamal) III, Metro Resort Police, Kodim 0502, PT Jakarta Propertindo (Jakpro) and society elements are conducting Gerebek Lumpur in Pluit Reservoir area, Penjaringan.

North Jakarta Mayor Sigit Wijatmoko said it was done as an effort to increase the capacity of the Pluit Reservoir. By doing so, the water discharge in the reservoir could be increased and could accommodate water flow during the upcoming rainy season.

"Pluit Reservoir is the main reservoir for a number of streams and rivers, especially Ciliwung Lama," he said, Friday (10/2).

According to him, its existence had a major effect on flood control in the central part of the city as it was connected to Manggarai Sluice Gate, Istiqlal and its surrounding areas. After being collected, the water from the reservoir would be flowed into the sea through the pump house.

Not only dredging mud, they also picked up waste around the reservoir park area, Opak River and streams to the Pluit Reservoir Pump. It was aimed of ensuring the reservoir's inlet and outlet was free of waste.

"We also ensure that the pump engine performance is optimal, there are no blocked channels to the pump housing," he stated.
